ON THIS DAY & IN THIS YEAR:

Germany began its Siege of Leningrad. Carol Ann debuted as the first of six born to Marion & Frank Gilroy in Somerset County, NJ. Senator Bernie Sanders was also born on this same day nearby in Brooklyn, NYC.
"Green Eyes" by Jimmy Dorsey and His Orchestra was the #1 Billboard hit. Sargent York was the highest grossing film of the year. And, on December 7th, Pearl Harbor was attacked with the USA declaring war on Japan in response.

WWII had begun.
